No male babies through eating cereal(s)…

Perhaps, some of you remember last years headline catching event: in April researchers announced their findings that eating lots of cereal before getting pregnant would lead to the birth of a son. Today, scientist in the U.S. are questioning the results of the analysis saying that chance was not considered sufficiently.

So… it is possible to determine the sex of a baby by the consumption of cereal?
When the message was published in april by a team around Fiona Mathews we first could´t believe it and thought it was just all about a big joke. The study asked about 740 women and came to the clear finding that women who daily have had cereal for breakfast delivered more male than female babies.

And that is exactly what U.S. scientists are disputing about: Stanley Young of the National Institute of Statistical Sciences in North Carolina and his team are stressing the missing consideration of the factor chance. The results, published under the laconic title “You are what your mother eats,” would therefore not be supportable. According to the U.S. researchers the study was lacking the correction of errors that are foreseeable in every statistical study, which leads to the assumtion that the coherence between the consumption of cereals and the birth of male babies is not given.

Anyways, … we got contacted by some amiable women who asked for muesli for men, or better, for male offspring. But that was supposably a joke. Those of you who want to know more about the topic will find information here or  here
